One of the biggest mistakes that people make when it comes to putting up a steel building is getting the wrong size and having to make changes after the fact to get it right. While renovation is more than possible (and much simpler) with steel buildings, it’s always a lot more beneficial to finish your project correctly the first time. As cost-friendly as steel buildings are, they are still a pretty big investment not only in terms of money, but time as well. Here are just a few ways you can make sure you end up with the right size steel building when your project is all said and done.
The most obvious way to figure out how much space you need is to start measuring. This is particularly important if you plan to use your steel building for a specific purpose like storage or a workshop, and have to ensure certain items will fit inside comfortably. Any and every item you’re looking to have inside your structure needs to be properly measured and accounted for, but don’t just stop there. You might get the measurements right, but it won’t make much difference if there’s no space around them to even get into the structure once everything is in there. Consider all the measurements you have and then an extra few square feet around all of it so there’s plenty of room to maneuver around where and when you need to. This is important in structures that will be used for work spaces where flow and layout is integral in running the space efficiently.
Plan Out Everything
Getting the proper measurements is only the first step, as you’ll also need to plan the layout of the inside of your structure so you know what will go where. This is imperative for ensuring that you choose the right building kit and layout. It’s important to remember that steel has an excellent strength-to-weight ratio, meaning they can support themselves without the need for support columns that often get in the way and dictate the kind of layout your structure can have. By having a truly open concept structure, you can get the most out of the entire space, instead of having the consider areas where certain items won’t fit across.
Pick The Right Kit
Each of our kits have specific measurements and you can also specify your own based on your needs. This is the time when it will be important to have the measurements you need in mind, and see where you might be able to play around with a few inches more or less. Currently, our structure sizes run from 16’ to 40’ wide with unlimited lengths, so it’s up to you to figure out what size within that frame works for you.
While our steel buildings are more than able to be put up as a DIY project, you might want to get assistance from a general contractor just to ensure that everything goes as smoothly as planned. While the construction of our buildings are pretty straight forward, it doesn’t hurt to have the project completed by an experienced team if you don’t feel comfortable completing it on your own.
